THE CHANT's 'Ghostlines' Released In UK
March 10, 2008"Ghostlines", the critically acclaimed debut album of the Finnish melancholic metallers THE CHANT, was released today in the UK and Ireland via Shadow World Records / Plastic Head Distribution. "Ghostlines" is a 54 minute emotionally charged rollercoaster ride with morose atmospheres, beautiful melodies and harmonies in the course of KATATONIA, ANATHEMA and HIM.
It took nearly a decade of hard work to get to where the band is today, but the enthusiastic musicians say it was all worth it.
"Making music is like any other form of art," states guitarist-songwriter Jussi Hämäläinen. "If you could express yourself some other way, it would be unnecessary to make music at all. The same applies to poetry, painting and so on. THE CHANT is a group of six individuals who share the same way of thinking about music. We all have our own favourites and influences but together we make THE CHANT's sound what it is. If a certain song needs a twist of rock or even pop elements into it in order to work, we're not afraid to use them."
And "Ghostlines" has it all: powerful chords and bursting riffs combined with comforting melodies and soothing soundscapes. The first single from the album, "Ode to the End (Thank You)", is currently on the main playlists of the most significant radio stations in Finland.
"Ghostlines" was executed with an impressive list of hardboiled professionals during three months of meticulous work. It was produced by the MOONSORROW vocalist-bassist Ville Sorvali, whose latest works include the chartbusting albums of PROFANE OMEN and DAUNTLESS. Mikko Herranen of Rust and Misery Inc. was in charge of mixing, and Chartmakers' Svante Forsbäck (LORDI, SONATA ARCTICA, APOCALYPTICA) took care of the mastering. The cover booklet was shot by Ville Juurikkala (NIGHTWISH, HIM, AMORPHIS),who was recently named the Best Rock Photographer by the immensely popular City magazine.
